JD Vance Attacks AOC for ‘Sociopathic Approach’ to Children and Family | JD Vance

In a speech to a Catholic group, JD Vance attacked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her “sociopathic approach” to family and children.

“One of the politicians I’ve criticized is AOC,” Vance said in 2021 during his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat in Ohio, which he would win the following year.

“Maybe AOC didn’t find the right person, whatever that is. AOC has basically said — if you look at her public statements on the subject — that having children because of concerns about climate change is immoral. Right? That’s, let’s be honest, a sociopathic approach to family.”

Ocasio-Cortez, better known as AOC, is a 34-year-old representative from New York and a leading figure among progressive members of the House of Representatives.

Vance, 39, is a far-right populist in the Senate who was selected as Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate last month.

Vance has had a difficult time during the campaign, particularly over his comments on family and women’s issues, including referring to opponents including Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, as “childless cat women.”

Mother Jones published a video of Vance attacking AOC.

It was emphasized that AOC did not state that having children is immoral.

In 2019, Ocasio-Cortez stated, “There’s basically a scientific consensus that life is going to be very difficult for our children (due to climate change), and it makes young people ask themselves a legitimate question: Is it still okay to have children?”

Vance, who now has three children, spoke in 2021 before the Napa Institute, a Catholic group that aims to “support the re-evangelization of the United States.”

“My fundamental view,” Vance said, “is that if the Republican Party, the conservative movement, stands for anything … the most important thing we should be doing is standing for children and standing for families.”

Arguing that we are facing a “civilization crisis” fueled by unhappy families and “healthy, intact families … without children,” he said: “So many of the most unhappy and miserable people in our media and in our public life are people without children.

“And I think they’ve been taught to strive for qualifications, degrees, money, when ultimately what will give you the most fulfillment in life is your family.”

Vance said he didn’t want to “criticize every single person who doesn’t have children.” His goal, he said, was to point out “that it’s one thing to have a society where some people don’t have children. It’s another thing to build an entire political movement that is clearly anti-child and anti-family. And that’s what the left is in this country. It’s anti-child and anti-family.”

After attacking AOC, he said, “What does it say about our civilization that so many of our leaders don’t have children? What does it say about the incentives built into the entire Democratic movement that reward young people who don’t have families over young people who do?”

“I think it’s just sick… and suggests that something is seriously broken.”

Ocasio-Cortez did not immediately respond. But Mother Jones pointed to a social media post from earlier this week in response to a complaint from Trump ally Vivek Ramaswamy about attacks on Vance and Trump for being “weird” on women, families and children.

“Being fascinated by the repression of women is stupid,” AOC said. “Trying to constantly watch what LGBTQ+ people are doing is insane. Punishing people who don’t have biological children is disgusting… that’s SUPER weird. And people need to know that.”
